What a great group of students we have in our classroom community. Our amazing painter from the district, Brandon, has been brightening up our space the last coupe of days. Because of this, we have been using other classroom communities to complete our work. The students have been so thoughtful and hard working in the spaces that were offered to us. We have been working on our Boy of the Painted Cave project in class. We discuss every day the importance of following the time line that we created to help us get our work done by November 13th. Time and time again I have tried to tell students to work on their drawing of their chosen character at home so I can assist them with the written piece.

In Social Studies we finished studying the geographic problems and solutions of the ancient Sumerians. We then looked at the seven characteristics of a civilization. Reminder that we are going to the Aldo Leopold Nature Center tomorrow. I recommended to students that they dress in layers and wear winter or waterproof boots. Also, most students opted to bring their own lunch. We will leave VHMS at 8:30 and arrive back to school at 12:30 so all students will attend their UA classes. In ELA we took MAP Reading test and will continue to do so on Thursday as this test is NOT timed.

On October 8th, our classes will complete the CBITS screener. Information was sent home with your child yesterday. The following information will be given to the students.

About the CBITS Screener:

• During Advisory on Monday, October 8th, all students in 6th-grade will be completing the CBITS Screener.
• CBITS stands for Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Trauma in Schools.  All 6th-grade students in the Madison Metropolitan School District take this each year.
• A passive consent form was sent home on 10/1/18. It is an option to opt your child out. Sign the form and send it back to school.
• Some of the questions on the screener are personal and difficult feelings may come up for you. If you need a break or need to speak with someone, let your teacher know.
• It is important that you answer these questions based off of real experiences in your own life and NOT from any stories you’ve heard or something you’ve seen in a movie/tv/video game.
