Hi all. Hope the week is going well. I did not imagine having this long of an extended break. Some students have been emailing to ask about upcoming projects. In Social Studies, our Ancient Egypt Project will still be due on February 5th and we will still have class time to work once we are back. Our biographies in ELA do not have a due date but you may continue to work on taking notes organized by your subtopic clusters and adding to your bibliography. No updates for Science and Math. Hope to see you all on Thursday!

Happy to be back today as it has been a crazy short week. The Black Lives Matter Week of Action in Madison is February 4-8th. This is the third year that a growing number of schools and communities around the country are holding a BLM week in schools. Our intention for the week is to bring together community members, teachers, parents, students, and union members to put forth a vision for a school system and community that truly values Black lives. This week is one action embedded in the lifelong work of creating a society and school system where all of our students, staff, and families experience respect, equity, and justice. We will focus on one theme per day: Restorative Justice and Empathy, Diversity and Globalism, Intergenerational, Black Families and Black Villages, Black Women and Unapologetically Black and Queer Affirming, Transgender Affirming and Collective Value. Velma Hamilton PTO is sponsoring the showing of The Hate U Give (See above) during the week.

Tomorrow there will be a Socratic Seminar in Science and we will discuss: the elite long distance runner and genetics. We were able to see the 8th grade musical of Into the Woods today. If you get the chance, they are showing it again tonight at 7:00 pm in our cafeteria. In ELA we created topic clusters for our biographies. Some examples: important life moments, inspirations, hardships, childhood, education. Today was our last in Reading Class to take the MAP reading test. We will find other times throughout the day tomorrow to finish up if need be.
