Being brief in our writing, is not easy. Students have the charge of taking an Unsung Hero, figuring out their legacy, and writing a brief paragraph about them. It is a switch from our longer essays that the students just completed. Stayed tuned for more details.

We are working on summarizing in reading and it is a skill that may seem easier than it is. Students were given one sentence and asked to change ONE word/phrase and then pass it to the next person (as well as covering up the original sentence). Once you get your original sentence back, the last sentence should be a summary of it. See above for an example.

Today in Reading MOST students met with a teacher to discuss their MAP Reading score. If they met with us, they have a reading goal sheet that needs to be signed and returned.

We appreciate the conversations that 6th grade students are able to have around race and racial inequities. Today was particularly powerful as we spoke about the Children's Crusade in Birmingham and how we can use the past to engage in and create present day movements.
